OOSTERHOUT SDG CONNECTS CITIZENS, BUSINESSES, EDUCATION AND VOLUNTEERS
The Municipality of Oosterhout is a Global Goals municipality and makes an active contribution to the 17 Goals or SDGs. The Municipality of Oosterhout forms, stimulates and initiates a local connection between companies, education, non-profit organisations and citizens with the development of an online platform to achieve sustainable economic, social and ecological goals. The 17 Global Goals serve as the foundation for this. In order to enthuse as many parties as possible, the municipality of Oosterhout offers future partners a free membership for the first year for the extensive network that shares knowledge, projects and initiatives. Subsequently, the community will be strong enough to take over leadership.
The Municipality of Oosterhout adopted the Energy Transition Roadmap in 2019 as part of its Future Vision 2030. The business community challenged the municipality of Oosterhout to set up a network to further develop the described goals together. This resulted in the Platform for the Sustainable Entrepreneur ('Platform voor de Duurzame Ondernemer'). Here the seed was sown to set up a low-threshold, accessible and recognisable website. For citizens, companies, education and governments.
“The Municipality of Oosterhout wants to initiate the SDG flywheel. That is why the easily accessible website www.OosterhoutSDGLokaal.nl was developed and launched on 4 October. To emphasise the goals, one Global Goal is put in the spotlight every 4th Thursday of the month. In January, this will be Global Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being. In line with the new year, where new intentions in this field can be supported.” - Mark Buijs, Mayor of the Municipality of Oosterhout. |
Via the platform we share knowledge and inspiration, we show local projects and initiatives and bring supply and demand together. Local connection is about active, reciprocal cooperation. The aim of the platform is to involve as many entrepreneurs, organisations and residents of the municipality of Oosterhout in the Global Goals theme and to jointly generate more local attention for the Global Goals in the form of concrete actions. It is a place where education, integration and participation come together. Through the platform, initiators can place a call or ask for help, while companies simultaneously place specific offers or whatever help they can offer to this project.
Oosterhout SDG Local combines the strengths of these parties. Companies, education and non-profit organisations can become an SDG17 partner for free and share their sustainable ambitions, projects and initiatives. Other companies, education and non-profit organisations can contribute to the projects or initiatives. In this way, supply and demand come together, Oosterhout SDG Local stimulates active cooperation and creates meaningful connections between society and the business community. All sustainable activities are linked to at least one goal. These goals are clearly described on the home page of the platform. Anyone can easily link the most relevant goal to their activity. In this way, supply & demand can easily be filtered by interested parties and it is immediately clear what is required.
A project that clearly shows its contribution as a connecting factor between society and the business community within Oosterhout is the Voedseltuin. This is a professional organisation for growing vegetables for people who depend on the food bank run by volunteers.
